(More customer reviews)I wasn't sure how these could work because the businesses selling much more expensive covers must still be functioning for a reason. So could these work? I thought I'd gamble the couple of bucks and see how it went. The result is that I think they're great! Don't be worried that because they're inexpensive that they won't work.
I use regular Indian prefold diapers with these and they breathe well and my baby has never gotten too hot or had rash problems- I live in Hawaii where it's plenty warm and humid but baby can wear these even under the day's outfit with no problem.
Honestly, they're not very cute and when you put them on, they're a bit puffy like a bubble. At first, I thought that meant my baby was too small for them but they fit comfortably snug around the stomach and thighs. The puffy extra compacts down very easily and are easy to hide under a cute panty or disappear under a bodysuit. I actually would rather use a plain cover like this that's -slim- than have an adorable diaper cover that's huge. Some cloth diaper setups I've seen make the baby's butt so big they end up having to wear larger sizes of clothing just to hold them in and then their clothes are all baggy and oversized. What's the point of a cute diaper cover if the clothes end up ill-fitting to contain them?I also like that these are very soft and flexible. Baby wears THEM, they don't wear baby by making it hard to sit up or digging in anywhere. They don't make a loud plastic crinkle or disposable diaper plastic sound. They're quiet like other cloth diapers are. I've tried one other diaper cover that was three times the price of this duo pack just for ONE diaper and it was so stiff and got so smelly and took so long to dry that I just got rid of it after a few failed attempts at using it. These are so compact and tiny it also lets me carry around a normal purse as a diaper bag. I could fit both of these covers, rolled up tight, in the same amount of space I could store a small coinpurse or a pack of gum. When paired with a few folded prefold diapers, I can bring around a cloth diapering diaper bag that's not the size of a boat!
Also, I like that these have never leaked and don't retain smells! I was given the impression as a naive lady pre-baby that I would need to be ready to strip and re-make a bed during or would need waterproof pads because overnight diaper messes were so common, but that's never happened to me because this cover contains everything. So I don't know if other men and women are up at three am changing sheets, but I never have. Unless you haven't pulled it full over the cloth diaper and some cloth extends out where it can transfer moisture out, you won't have a leak. Even completely liquid poo has never escaped the leg band and stays off clothes and beds.
This cover also dries very quickly! I keep and rotate through four of them. After changing the diaper, I take the used cover and rinse it out under water or ball it around in my hands with some soap and then squeeze it out after a rinse and hang it and it's dried by the time I have to change another diaper. They're also tough enough to go in the washer AND the dryer won't ruin them if it gets in by mistake. Sometimes I even dry them on purpose because I don't want to wait for air drying and it doesn't ruin them. I've been using the same covers for 4 months and through regular washing, and drying, they're still functional with all seams intact and all elastics still stretchy and doing their jobs. The only thing you should be aware of is that the leg elastics and sometimes the nylon can get stained but I hang them in the sun and it bleaches them out. The washing machine won't usually remove really stuck in stains alone. For me, I don't consider this worth reducing a star because it's an expected thing to happen and is easily removed. To me, they're hands down 5 stars because I'm diapering my child for a ridiculously tiny price thanks to plain old prefolds and super inexpensive, no frills, easy to use nylon diaper covers. Sometimes I've looked at cute and fancy (expensive!) diaper covers and thought, 'wow, maybe those would work really well, they look comfortable!' but then I just remind myself, 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' Why spend so much more for something just hoping it will work when I can spend 6$ for these and KNOW they do?
